The 11 Special Reset Functions Every OBD Scanner Must Have

Buying an OBD2 Scanner might be a confusing process if you have no idea which scanner to choose. The OBD scanner in your automobile should be able to execute the following 11 critical functions. To summarize, it is better to buy an OBD scanner if it offers these 11 unique features. Oil Reset Service This function can be performed in the following cases: 1.  If the service lamp is on, you must provide service for the car. After service, you need to reset the driving mileage or driving time so that the service lamp turns off and the system enables the new service cycle. 2.  After changing engine oil or electric appliances that monitor oil life, you need to reset the service lamp. Steering Angle Calibration 1.  To reset the steering angle, first find the relative zero point position for the car to drive in a straight line. Taking this position as reference, the ECU can calculate the accurate angle for left and right steering. 2.  After replacing the s...

have car diagnostic tools

These days, cars and trucks are more complex than ever. Not only are they jam packed with all of today’s most advanced mechanical components and features, but all of these sophisticated bits of machinery are all interconnected via computerized networks of interrelated car self diagnostic tools. These networks can be very useful in testing and diagnosing problems with your vehicle- but only if you have the right equipment. A lot of times, all this extra sophistication can seem like a great hassle- especially if you’re accustomed to the good old days of muscle-car simplicity where you just replace the part and fire it up. Well, for better or worse, those days are gone. The good news is there’s plenty of  Automotive diagnostic tools available that- with a little bit of time in research- you can learn to perform complex diagnostic functions with that will give you a lot more power over the ins and outs of your car or truck than you would have had otherwi...

Diagnostic Tools for Your Car

Car diagnostic tools run the gamut from low tech gear that you might already have in your toolbox to the prohibitively expensive equipment used by professional automotive technicians. Some of these tools are absolutely indispensable, and you can probably take a pass on others without inconveniencing yourself too much. Low Tech Auto diagnostic tool Although cars have been trending more and more toward computer controls and diagnostic equipment in recent years, it’s important to start with the basics. With that in mind, there are a few decidedly low tech (and somewhat less than low tech) tools that every DIYer and backyard mechanic should have in his or her toolbox. Some of the most basic car diagnostic tools include a: 1.12v test light 2.mechanic’s stethoscope 3.timing light 4.vacuum gauge 5.vacuum pump 6.fuel pressure gauge If you’re working on an older car, then this sort of equipment (along with items like a compression tester, leak-down detector, etc) is ba...

How Does a Car Code Reader Work?

Computer controls started to show up on cars in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and these systems rapidly grew in complexity. Even very early computer controls included basic “on board diagnostic” functionality, and these early, OEM-specific systems are collectively referred to as OBD-I. In 1995, for the 1996 model year, automakers around the world started transitioning toward the universal OBD-II standard, which has been in use ever since. Both OBD-I and OBD-II systems work in essentially the same way, in that they monitor a variety of sensor inputs and outputs. If the system determines that anything is out of spec, it sets a “ Auto Scanner Tools ” that can be used in diagnostic procedures. Each code corresponds to a specific fault, and there are also different types of codes (i.e. hard, soft) that represent both ongoing and intermittent problems. When a trouble code is set, a special indicator on the dashboard typically lights up. This is the “malfunction indicator lamp” and it essen...
